How can we keep from Like A Song of Ice and Fire, the Malazan series is about an extended struggle for royal or imperial power, as it chronicles the titular Malazan Empire's attempts to subjugate its neighbor countries. And yet The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb. Martin's A Dance With Dragons was everything we'd hoped it would be — but now we can't wait to read the next book, The Winds of Winter. While I enjoyed the exerpt (and Hobb's prose in general) I can honestly say I will NEVER pick up another one of her books after reading the Farseer Trilogy. She should have weaned me when I was two, but when she learned that Queen Capable was with child she kept me at the breast to be sure that she would still be in milk when the royal infant was born. I finished reading the second book in the Farseer Trilogy, 'Royal Assassin', last weekend and had an immediate urge to draw the character of Burrich.
